Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan oil pipeline

The Baku–Tbilisi–Ceyhan pipeline is a 1,768 kilometres (1,099 mi) long crude oil pipeline from the Azeri-Chirag-Guneshli oil field in the Caspian Sea to the Mediterranean Sea. It connects Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan; Tbilisi, the capital of Georgia; and Ceyhan, a port on the south-eastern Mediterranean coast of Turkey, hence its name. It is the second longest oil pipeline in the world after the Druzhba pipeline. The first oil that was pumped from the Baku end of the pipeline on 10 May 2005 reached Ceyhan on 28 May 2006.

A geographical map of the region is featured in the centre of the coin. Sea is rendered with a mirrored surface; land – with a textured surface; the territories of Georgia, Azerbaijan and Turkey – with a matte surface. The countries are separated from each other by borders. On the coins the itinerary of the pipelines is outlined with an embossed line, the cities – Baku, Tbilisi, Ceyhan – with relief circles. At the top of the compo sition there is a bilingual circular embossed legend – "ბაქო-თბილისი-ჯეიჰანი" (also in English); the poin ts of their junction are marked with two small circles. In the lower part of the composition, the denomination numeral "3" and a bilingual legend: "ლარი" (in Georgian) and "Lari" (in English) are embossed.
Three oil wells situated on the platform passing through the Caspian Sea are depicted in relief in the center of the circular composition. Sea is represented symbolically with wavy lines. The two different surfaces (mirror and textured) make a composition of the rising sun against the background. The coin mintage date, 2006, is engraved on the textured surface. At the top of the composition there is a bilingual circular embossed legend: "საქართველოს ეროვნული ბანკი" (in Georgian)  and "National Bank of Georgia" (in English); the point of junction is marked with a small circle. At the lower part of the composition there is an abbreviation of the project "BTC" in relief (in English) and a symbolic ornament of a wing.
